Due to a glitch, I’ve got to reinstall Photoshop… and since I’m a procrastinator, I haven’t done it yet, so no new art so far haha. I have, however, been keeping busy. I’ve just posted a few blog articles elsewhere that may be of interest to some of you. Here’s the lowdown:
>1. The Strandbeests of Theo Jansen
Jansen creates incredible synthetic “life-forms” that are not only animate, but somewhat self-aware.
2. An Eclectic Collection of Collage Art – Part 1
The first in a series of posts featuring brillaint collage art by some amazing contemporary collage artists.
3. Conceptualizing Wonderland
Conceptual artist Michael Kutsche is responsible for several of the visually stunning character concepts behind Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland & shares with us some of the conceptual artwork from the film.
Other than that, I’ve been catching up on a few of the TED Talks that I’ve missed recently. Here they are:
Hillel Cooperman: Legos for grownups (the latest talk)
Cameron Herold: Let’s Raise Kids To Be Entrepreneurs (great stuff)
Christopher “moot” Poole: The Case For Anonymity Online
John Underkoffler points to the future of UI
Plans for the day? I guess I should actually reinstall that screwy software so I can get some work done… and then maybe I’ll make a followup collage to “Strange Neighbors” – Charlotte’s already provided me a great title to toy with, “Strange Bedfellows” lol. I think it will be a pretty fun set if/when I get a few more crazy character collages created. Marketable? Probably not, haha, but they’re fun & that’s what’s important.
I’ve got Regina Spektor‘s song Aching To Pupate rolling around in my head at the moment. If you’d like it stuck in yours as well, you’ll find it with lyrics below. I’ll be humming along all day and occasionally randomly telling no one in particular that “I should peddle butterflies…“
Have a great day!
- Ken
Regina Spektor – Aching to Pupate
Aching to pupate
Aching to pup-p-p-pate
[repeats 4x]
Pu-pupate, pu pate,
Pu-pate, pu-pupate, pu pa-ate…
I should peddle butterflies
There’s a shortage in the city,
I’ll stand on the street corner
All mysterious and giddy,
When the passers by pass by
I will open up my trenchcoat,
They will see the butterflies
Dangling like fake Rolexes…
Every morning I wake up
With a purpose and a smirk
I’ll put on my fake moustache
I’ll drink Heineken eat Corn Flakes…
Then I’ll call my mum and dad
Tell them that I’m doing fine,
Or I’ll write a tipsy letter
To a real good friend of mine,
Or I’ll jump upon the bed
Waltzing madly with the broomstick
But before I leave the house
I will fill my lips with lipstick…
But peddling is a dirty sport
There’s competition in the city,
Everyone is on a street corner
All mysterious and giddy.
Some are selling bags and shoes,
Some are selling books and gold,
I’ve been standing here for days
Not one butterfly’s been sold…
And how I’m
Aching to pupate
Aching to pup-p-p-pate
[repeats 4x]
Pu-pu-pate, pupate,
Pupate, pu-pu-pate, pu pa-ate.
